The Thrill Of UFC In Las Vegas

UFC International Fight Week happens yearly around the Fourth of July in Las Vegas. Since its early editions, it has hosted some of the most famous UFC fights ever.

This year, UFC 276 will start at 3 P. M. on Saturday, July 2 at T-Mobile Arena. Due to an unexpected turn of events including injuries and schedules, there will not be a much-anticipated bout at this event. However, it will not stop it from attracting fans for the interesting fights that will take place.

The new fan expo UFC X will set the stage for UFC 276 with fighter meet-and-greets, interactive activities and other attractions. The action will take place on July 1 and 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. However, the most attention always goes to the pay-per-view card. Here are a few things to watch out for throughout the fights at UFC 276.

🔴The End of a Trilogy at UFC In Vegas

UFC 276 will host the third fight between the top two featherweights in the world—champion Alexander Volkanovski and longtime former champion Max Holloway. It isn’t the main event, but that’s only because the UFC always defaults to the bigger weight classes.

The Australian Volkanovski has beat the Hawaiian Holloway twice by points—by unanimous decision in 2019 and split decision in 2020—but both were controversial.

Now, they have their rivalry inscribed on the history of UFC. There is great expectation on what is possibly going to happen this time around.

🟠 The Return of Pioneer Miesha Tate

Tate is based in Vegas and was one of the first women’s mixed martial arts athlete. She was up for a rough start back in 2016 when she fought at UFC 200 on a 3 days’ notice because headliner Jon Jones failed a drug test. She lost her bantamweight title to Amanda Nunes in the first round. After another loss a few months later, she decided on retirement.

After a few years as a commentator and ambassador for the sport, she is making a comeback now. This is her third fight since unretiring and she would face Lauren Murphy at the flyweight division. However, a covid-10 positive test pulled Murphy out of the bout, and UFC had to search for an alternative.

The promotion ultimately decided not to go that route and re-scheduled Tate vs. Murphy for the UFC on ABC card scheduled for July 16 in Long Island, N.Y.

🟣 The ‘Suga Show’

He has a veru extroverted personality and great ability to finish his opponents. “Sugar” Sean O’Malley has been regarded as a star ever since he started at the UFC longer than three years ago.

The 27-year-old comes from three straight knockout victories and must prove whether he is ready to fight for the title. He will meet his most experienced opponent in his career in veteran 35-year-old Pedro Munhoz. Their bout will open the pay-per-view card of UFC in Las Vegas 276 this Saturday.

Undoubtedly, O’Malley has a strong enough fanbase to be in the main bouts. He has, however, a number of detractors who will say he has been favored by the UFC. This favoring would have occurred by getting him “easier” matchups. To maybe light up this fire, Munhoz has lost four of his last five fights. His opponents were current or former champions.

🟡 Climb of ‘The Tarantula’

No fighter on preliminary cards has electrified T-Mobile Arena over the past year more than Jalin “The Tarantula” Turner.

The lightweight upset Uros Medic via first-round submission at UFC 266 in September. Then, he knocked out Jamie Mullarkey in the second round at UFC 272 in March. His reward comes in an elevated placement this time. Turner will cap the ESPN-televised portion of the card in a fight against Brad Riddell.

Unlike O’Malley’s hype, no one is accusing Turner’s rise of being manufactured. It has come of out nowhere for the avid spider collector from San Bernardino, California, and will reach new heights if the 27-year-old can secure a fifth-straight stoppage victory at UFC 276.

UFC Fight Nights In Vegas

In the wake of the covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, all sports events were being canceled worldwide. It was not different with UFC events.

It was not until late May 2020 that the Nevada state government allowed sports events to come back–as long as they followed strict sanitary rules. One of these guidelines was the absence of fans in the events.

Almost a year later, in April 2021, the UFC finally welcomed fans back to its events. UFC 261 was the first UFC event to host a sold-out crowd since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic.

Training Like a UFC Fighter

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, known as the UFC, is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. Beginners in fighting often look up to UFC fighters when aiming for success. The fitness industry was quick in hopping on the UFC trend.

Nowadays, the market offers UFC fighter training sessions for people who wish for strength and fitness, without necessarily engaging in actual combats. UFC fighters build endurance not by running long distances or cycling for many hours. They use high-intensity interval training (popularly known as HIIT) using circuits with different stations.
