The Splendorous Mountains Around Las Vegas

If you have ever been to Vegas, you know why it is called the City Of Lights. But Did you know there’s much more to see than the technological neon city? With its location in a desert, Las Vegas has a lot of natural beauty to be explored including splendorous mountains.

With International Mountain Day being celebrated on December 11th, let’s check out the amazing rides around Sin City that will blow your mind with their amazing landscape.

The Splendorous Mountains

With the beginning of Winter, enjoy the cooler weather and visit some of these beautiful mountains.

Mount Charleston: With the largest Bristlecone Pine forests, this mountain is the fifth tallest mountain peak in the Nevada region, standing at an elevation of 11,908 feet. In Mount Charleston, there are numerous ski slopes and hiking trails as well as wildflower plants, White Fir and Ponderosa Pine. It is the perfect place for hiking and having a picnic with your family.

Frenchman Mountains: A very popular mountain is easily mistaken for Sunrise Mountain. Frenchmen is the largest one and it is located a bit more in the south. It takes 4.4 miles to get to the summit. There is a trekking route that is open all year long but be aware because this route can be considered quite difficult even for those who are used to trekking. Also, you can see every casino in Las Vegas city from the southwest side once you reach the top.

Muddy Mountains: The largest mountain range in the Clark County region, the Muddy Mountains are very close to Vegas. Only one hour by car. These mountains are made essentially from minerals and different types of rocks. There is also a 600-foot canyon carved by water. You can have a view of Lake Mead and from its summit, you can have a beautiful view of the Mojave Desert.

Mountain Biking

Maybe you don’t know this, but Las Vegas is a very popular place for mountain biking around its splendorous mountains. People come from everywhere, enjoy the trails, and the splendorous views from the amazing mountains, and even spend some time in the luxury of the city at night. Balance is key.

Before going to any mountain trail it is important to keep in mind you are going to a desert area. Bring your GPS, because many trails don’t have signs with their names on them. You should also get an app like Trail Forks or Strava. If you prefer, you can also ride your e-bike. They are a modern trend and are allowed on most trails.

Please remember we are talking about desert climate, so be prepared because the weather can be cold, windy, hot, or dry. Or even all in one day. So take snacks, water, sunscreen, and a windbreaker. All in all, enjoy the cold winter months as they are cooler.

If you love not only flora but also fauna, you will have a blast with the wild donkeys. They are very cute and majestic. But be aware, you cannot feed them.
