Vegas As The Ultimate Gambling Mecca

Las Vegas was founded in 1905 by Mormons and was issued a gaming license by the state of Nevada in 1931. After that, hotels and resorts quickly flourished in order to accommodate the hordes of gamblers coming to the city. Eventually, resort hotels and casino owners realized that hiring big-name entertainers should bring even wealthier betters into the city.

About Vegas Casinos

Online vs. In-Person Gambling

Which one is better? This is something only you can answer. On one side, convenience and versatility of online gambling. On the other, the full experience of being in a casino, especially at the world’s gambling mecca, Las Vegas.

Testing Your Luck And Skill at The World’s Gambling Mecca

Are you a lucky person? We are always tempted to test our luck, even when we know our odds are quite low. For some people, just the thrill of waiting for the roulette or the slots to stop spinning makes it worth the risk of losing some money. Others are keener on putting their personal skill on stage and seeing what they are able to achieve in a table game.

They Are The Moment: Slot Machines

When you pull the spin button on a slot machine, it is like you have unleashed a stream of fun and excitement within yourself. These machines attract us for this very feeling. It is about these few seconds in which you have no idea of what’s to come. You are aware your odds are low, yet, for those brief moments, it almost feels like there is an equal chance of hitting a huge jackpot and losing the money you spent on those casino chips.

The Mechanism Behind Slots

Slots operate by the rules of an internal algorithm, which determines the odds of winning a huge jackpot, or smaller ones.

Do You Believe In Pure Luck?

For some, depending on the time of day you gamble, you have different odds of winning. Others can swear that there are specific motions you can get to in order to increase your odds. Sadly, these superstitions make little sense when we think of slots.

Facts About Vegas Slot Machines

Slot machines date back to the late nineteenth century in the United States. Of course, they were a lot simpler than the ones we see on casino floors nowadays. The thrill of the spinning wheels, however, seems to be very similar and continues to attract a lot of attention to this day.

Slots are the biggest source of revenue for casinos in Vegas. The 120,000 working machines yield 75% of casino profits. With all that money sitting on the casino floor, they have been attracting cheats from the beginning of time.

Are Slots Irreducible?

Former TV repairman Tommy Carmichael has scammed billions from Vegas slots for many years. Every slot machine you see today was engineered having Carmichael’s cheat system in mind.

Now in his sixties, Carmichael has provided an interview about his story with slot machines. Back in his TV repair shop, he once received a customer bringing in a cheating device that would hot wire the machine’s motor. “Top and bottom joint”, it was called.

It would activate the circuit that dispenses money when a jackpot is hit in a slot machine. Carmichael is interested in his friend’s device in 1980. Back then, video surveillance systems were not allowed inside casinos.

Tommy took the device to Vegas and went on to test it in one of the thousand slot machines in town. The device worked, and Carmichael begins commuting to Sin City making 2,000 dollars a day on average. This is equivalent to more than 5,000 dollars a day in today’s values. After a while, he shut down his TV shop and moved to Vegas. He would spend, for example, 1,500 to 1,800 dollars on a single meal. He was living the big life.

Carmichael says that cheating the machine was never the problem. The more complicated part was avoiding people. In 1985, casinos finally caught some crooks using the top and bottom devices. In reply, they develop a system able to detect the surge of electricity the device creates. Quickly, these new machines were all over casinos and cheating becomes more difficult.

On July 4, 1985, Tommy Carmichael gets caught cheating on a slot machine. Enforcement agents of Nevada proceed to arrest him on the spot. Cheating, especially using a device to cheat, is a felony punishable by up to 6 years for your first offense.
